MEET THE TEAM: SARAH JAMES

Beatles Tour of Liverpool

THIS MONTH WE CATCH UP WITH SARAH WHO IS ONE OF OUR TOURIST GUIDES IN LIVERPOOL

Hi! My name is Sarah and I am one of Liverpool Tour Company’s tour guides! My favourite tours are walking tours around the city including Beatles, history and food experiences!

What do you love about your job?

I love that I get to show people my great city, tell them stories about its people, buildings and history.

Liverpool Beatles Walking Tour

How would you describe your job to someone who doesn’t work in tourism?

As an informative entertainer.

People want a fun tour of a place they have never been before! I give them context, but keep it interesting and entertaining.

What does your typical workday look like?

I usually prepare for my tour, check out the route i’ll take etc.

Then I welcome my guests and get to know them a little, before taking them on a guided tour around liverpool. Sometimes on foot, but also by coach, depending on the tour.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE PLACE TO VISIT IN LIVERPOOL?

There are simply too many lovely plaves in liverpool: the beautiful Anglican cathedral, the Sefton Palm House, Castle Street…………………….I could go on.

Liverpool Hop On Hop Off

What is your most joyous moment working with Liverpool Tour Company?

My first tour! It was a bit windy and wet but what an amazing feeling – it was a walking tour: Beatles.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?

I like to hike in the Lake District (which is not too far and you can even visit on a private tour with Liverpool Tour Company) and travel.

If you could pick anybody to be your mentor, who would it be?

Ken Pye – a  local liverpool historian. He’s simply amazing!

What advice would you give to new tour guides before their first tour?

Deep breath and smile.

Don’t forget to have fun 😉
